Vampire
by Martin Higareda
She stopped crying then, and lay next to me
She wiped her tears, and kissed my lips warmly

A beautiful and wretched vampire appeared
from under my bed, and sat down next to me
and cried
She said
Do you think I am beautiful, for all that I am wretched?
And I lay down again, breathless, and answered
Yes
and stared
She said
Do you think you could love me, for all that I am damned forever?
And I closed my eyes, tightly, and whispered
Yes
and sighing
she said
Forever, then, could you be mine, for my sake and the love of hell?
And I fell asleep, in her hot stinging embrace, thinking
Yes
