Mall
"I'm sorry, the mall's closed."
"Oh." I didn't have much else to say, I was unnerved. She spoke like a recording, and I knew she was lying. The mall was open; there was just no one around, because everyone was gone.
"I'm sorry," she said again, false cheer, "the mall's closed."
"Why?" I asked impertinently. She smiled.
"I saw what he was doing," she said softly, eyes staring at nothing. "He was suspicious. I helped him. He's ok now." And looking behind her I perceived a young man with the same dead eyes. And now both approached me...from inches away she spoke again: "You'll be ok," she said.
Dreams
I was walking/driving through a deserted shopping center, it seemed futuristic, and I stopped near an immense stone and glass building. A woman approached me--I don't believe her eyes really saw anything--her arms outstretched, but not rigid.
